Restylane® - the world’s best-selling wrinkle filler - is FDA approved for the temporary correction of facial wrinkles and folds. Made from a patented non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid, Restylane restores skin volume to reduce wrinkles and give your face a more youthful appearance.
A common sign of aging is the loss of fatty tissue and collagen in your face. Weight loss, gravity, and over-exposure to the sun can accelerate this process. While each person’s face ages in a unique way, it is common to see gauntness, wrinkling, and vertical folds appear on both sides of the mouth. The youthful appearance of rounded cheeks may disappear as tissue migrates downward, giving the face a tired or worn look. Wrinkle fillers such as Restylane and Perlane (a very similar wrinkle filler) are designed to help correct these age-related processes.
Who is a candidate for Restylane?
We may recommend Restylane for treatment of moderate facial wrinkles and folds, or she may recommend Perlane for deeper wrinkles. The nasolabial folds are the most common treatment area but it may also be effective for filling out thin lips and the hollow areas around the eyes and near the top of the nose (one of the areas most prone to fat loss). Some treatments may utilize Restylane for restoring volume to the cheekbones and mid-face.
Your Restylane Injection
We will decide the best placement for Restylane after carefully evaluating your wrinkles and skin conditions. If necessary, the areas to be treated are numbed with a topical anesthetic to make the procedure comfortable. The latest wrinkle filler formula is called “Restylane-L” and it contains the anesthetic lidocaine to make your treatment more comfortable.
Our providers inject Restylane with a fine needle to correct the contour irregularities present on your skin. Results of Restylane last 6 months or more. You will need touch-ups and repeat treatments to maintain the volume and wrinkle correction you desire over the years.
Possible Side Effects
Hyaluronic acid fillers are effective and safe when administered in a medical setting by a qualified and trained physician. Because Restylane is bio-compatible, you don’t need to be pre-tested for a possible allergic reaction to it. We will learn about your medical history and ask you some important health questions to make sure Restylane is a good option for you.
Side effects with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are usually minor and last for fewer than 7 days. You may have some bruising, redness or swelling at the treatment sites for a few days. It’s not unusual for uneven swelling to occur, with one side more prominent than the other. Typically, this lasts for a couple of days before it resolves itself.
