Reconstructive surgery is something that no one ever chooses or elects to undergo, but when a situation arises where reconstruction is necessary, it is comforting to know there are so many effective, time-tested reconstructive surgery procedures available today. During your consultation, Dr. Weston will discuss your reconstructive surgery needs with you and recommend a treatment based on your practical and cosmetic goals.
Skin Cancer Surgery
If a non-melanoma skin cancer, such as basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma, is discovered on your skin, you will need skin cancer surgery to remove affected skin cells, and if necessary, your skin will need to be stitched closed or repaired in some other way.
Tissue expansion is a procedure designed to help you grow extra tissue so that it may be used to reconstruct skin needed elsewhere on your body. Additional tissue grown via tissue expansion is often used to perform breast reconstruction after mastectomy.
After having a mastectomy, most women choose breast reconstruction surgery to recreate the look and feel of their pre-cancer breasts through a number of surgical methods. Although breast reconstruction surgery cannot completely mimic natural breasts, they can help women regain their feminine shape and occasionally even some breast sensation.
There are numerous scar revision procedures available to help minimize the appearance of scars, improve skin texture and provide permanent scar reduction, including light and laser treatments, skin resurfacing, injectable fillers and skin excision. Depending on the characteristics of your scars and skin, Dr. Weston will recommend the most effective scar revision approach for you.
